I spent nearly a week in the HJ Andrews Experimental Forest, in the Cascades, along with Black-tailed deer, rough-bellied newts (enough tetrodotoxin to kill 25,000 mice, apparently. “Don’t put it in your mouth, Jean”), 500-year old Douglas Firs, scorpions, hidden cougars and a myriad of spring flowers…
